I find it absolutely abhorrent that this council, mayor, Code Enforcement officer, and manager, do absolutely nothing in regard to these ongoing permit violations. In fact, many more people are starting to wake up to the simple fact that you simply do not care, about the damage you are allowing in our small historic town of Gettysburg. This lack of ethics will matter come the next election. You are literally destroying this town piece by piece. But it appears that is your plan. Am I right? You voted in an interim mayor, who has her eye on affordable housing. I have read through the Mayor’s Manual for the Borough of Gettysburg multiple times, and have found absolutely nothing that fits that job description. But that is the plan right? To try and remove the history from Gettysburg and to bring in the kind of people that you want to live here? You know, the younger crowd? You are absolutely pathetic!

No Kings protest: I saw you Moon. But did you see the following: Oh wait! Let’s add the actual permit first!

3). Not to block sidewalks and sidewalk ramps.

4). Ensure a 5-feet pedestrian passageway

5). Organizer will not use profanity on signs

I do recall the following email from the Code Enforcement officer Pete Griffioen dated September 23, 2025:

We have addressed terms of the permits. However, please understand that the other matters you mention such as signs with offensive language, political viewpoints, and demonstrations fall under protected speech as outlined in the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As such, the Borough does not have the authority to restrict these expressions solely based on their content.

I want to address your concerns directly. The Borough includes conditions such as “no profanity” on permits, but courts have consistently held that the government cannot restrict speech based on offensive language alone. For that reason, this language is not enforceable under the First Amendment.

Regarding the megaphone issue, the Borough has taken steps to address the use of amplification by the group involved. If you observe continued problematic use, please report the date, time, and any identifying information so I can document and follow up. I will continue to monitor the situation and take enforcement action where the law allows.

Regarding the phrase “8647,” it is understood that “86” is slang for “throw out” and “47” is a reference to President Trump. While many may disagree with the message, this type of political expression is still considered protected speech. The only exceptions are speech that constitutes a true threat, incitement to violence, or obscenity as defined by law. An explicit, credible call for violence such as “All Republicans Must Die” would be analyzed under those standards and could be unprotected, but I have not seen a sign that says, “All Republicans Must Die” and I do not know whether such a sign was actually on the Square., if it was – it would be a police matter.

Finally, I want to be clear that at no point has anyone asked me to “stand down.” My role is to enforce Borough ordinances within the limits of the law, and that is what I will continue to do.

If you do observe clear safety violations, you are welcome to document them and provide them to the myself or to the Gettysburg Police Department for review.

Interesting: I have filed several complaints; called the police department to report violations and was told by Sara Stull that no one ever called them. Which is in fact a lie. I have been going to these protests since May and have seen them get progressively worse. Do you allow them to be antagonistic too? I have sent proof time and time again and nothing is done. Where have you been since they started? Where have YOU been, these last 6 months that they have unleased their hell on this town to the point businesses are disrupted? Save your words for someone who believes you as I certainly don’t!

A business owner recently told me she was afraid to speak up, for fear a brick would get thrown through her window. With the borough ordinance not requiring liability insurance for these weekly Saturday protests, the business owners would have to pay for the damages. Imagine that! Innocent people not protected by this borough! It is sickening. Also at the No Kings protest a pedestrian was hit in the crosswalk. I am happy to hear that he was not seriously injured. But when will you wake up to the fact that at some point, there is going to be serious injuries or possible death? It makes me wonder if this borough leadership will be charged for Criminal Negligence, for failure to enforce the terms of the permits. But the permits are obviously just for show right? I mean, after all, it clearly states “no profanity“! For you to allow this type of vulgarity, vile, and disgusting wording on these signs, and then blame it on “protected speech” is nothing more than a cop out. Oh! In case you are too stupid to understand what that means, here let me break it down.

For you to do nothing about the violations, clearly states you approve of them! It clearly shows that you do not mind if little children are being shaped and molded by this type of scum. But you sure had enough to say about the previous mayor. It’s a double standard. You talk about wanting to protect children, but then subject to them to words of profanity, rape, pedophile, and violence. The parents are just as much at fault. But it should be your jobs to protect the community, and the tourists who come here to learn about history. Oops. My bad! I forgot you are wanting to get rid of it. Trust me! It shows! I can only hope and pray that each and everyone of you are voted out and/or fired. You are a disgrace to Jenny Wade, and the soldiers that fought and died here, and yes, that includes Confederate blood. I don’t give a damn about your political woke bullshit! When protesters verbally attack a fifteen year old boy honoring his Confederate 4times great-grandfather, it can only mean one thing, Satan has overtaken this town! Congratulations, you are the ones responsible for creating this evil!
